According to data from Instagram* and YouGov*, the Golden Retriever takes the top spot as the UK’s most photogenic dog, with Brits sharing more snaps of their beloved Golden good boys and good girls than any other breed.

Here’s the top five breakdown below:

  5. Beagle – 14,710,042 posts

To celebrate our Instagrammable pups, Walkie Dogs is launching a national competition to find the best human and dog lookalike. To be in with a chance of winning an annual membership to Walkie Dogs worth £40, all entrants must do is share a snap of them and their beloved furry friend, tagging @WalkieDogs across social.**

Danny Silk, Founder and Pack Leader of Walkie Dogs, said: “We love all our furry friends, of course, but according to data our favourite pup to take snaps of is the Golden Retriever. The research comes in perfect time for Bank Holiday Monday, which also happens to be National Dog Day, so we’d encourage you to take pictures of you and your furry best friend when out and about and share them on social!”

82% of people surveyed by Purina felt going on a dog walk improved their mental health, while three quarters of those studied by Kennel Club said walking their dog improved their overall mood.

Meanwhile, Barcelos, A.M., Kargas, N., Assheton, P. et al. conducted a qualitative and cross-sectional study. Owners who failed to take action such as walking their dog, reported poor wellbeing, while those who engaged in social interactions and conversations with others due to their dog reported less depression, anxiety and improved wellbeing.
